Studio Secrets: Machinist's Rig Arm (Loc-Line Kit)

Machine shops use this snap-together segmented hose to aim coolant at a cutting tool. It bends to any angle and stays there, which also makes it a cheap, stiff rig arm for holding a puppet or prop in mid-air, a jump, or a flying shot.

• Genuine Loc-Line 1/4" modular hose kit (segments, nozzles, and connectors)
• A pointer to our build guide that shows how to clamp it to your table and mount the tip to a puppet

Studio tips

• Add or remove segments to set the reach you need. Shorter arms hold more weight.
• Tape or wire the tip to the puppet's back or hip, the side away from the camera, so it's easy to paint out.
• For heavy puppets, step up to a proper steel rig. For small puppets, props, and effects, this does the job for a fraction of the price.
