This is the clay you use for the parts that must not move. Mix equal parts A and B and you get a few hours to sculpt. Then it air-cures rock hard, with no oven.

Where it earns its place on a stop-motion bench

• Hip and chest blocks on wire or ball-and-socket armatures. Pack it around the joints and it locks them in solid.
• Hands and feet cores that won't bend when you animate the fingers.
• Replacement heads, props, and set pieces that you can sand, drill, and paint.

Studio tip

Hardware-store epoxy putty sets in 5 to 20 minutes. Artist-grade epoxy like this gives you hours, which is the difference between sculpting and panicking. Smooth it with a little water on your finger before it cures.

Wear gloves when you mix it. Not for children.
