What it's for: the first weekend with a "new" old arcade machine. These are the cleaning supplies arcade collectors keep reaching for on the forums, all in one box.
What's in the box, and what each one fixes
- NOVUS Plastic Polish 1-2-3 kit (8 oz): No. 1 cleans, No. 2 takes out fine scratches, and No. 3 cuts heavy scratches. It's the go-to for cloudy marquees, scratched monitor bezels, and control-panel plexi. Work from No. 3 down to No. 1.
- DeoxIT D5 contact cleaner: cleans and protects edge connectors, chip pins, and switch contacts. It fixes a lot of "the game won't boot" and "the button only works sometimes" problems.
- Security bit set: the tamper-proof Torx and other bits some manufacturers (Midway, for one) used to lock cabinets up.
- White vinyl eraser: the old-timer's trick for polishing dull edge-connector fingers without scratching the gold
- A 1" soft brush and microfiber cloths: for dusting the monitor chassis and boards without static
Restoration tips
- Always unplug the machine and let a CRT sit before you clean near the monitor. The picture tube holds a dangerous charge even when it's off. If you're not trained to discharge it, leave the chassis to a pro.
- Pull socketed chips, clean the pins, give them a light DeoxIT spray, and reseat them. It's the classic first fix for a dead board.
